Description
Takamine GY21E SM New Yorker (parlor-style) Acoustic-Electric Guitar with a solid spruce top, sapele back and sides, a mahogany neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and a Satin Molasses finish.
I've been playing guitar for over 30 years. I started as a studio musician in Los Angeles, and now I run Terry Carter Music Store and a music education platform that has taught thousands of students how to play.
A parlor-sized body changes how a guitar feels in your lap. It's compact, comfortable on a couch, easy to travel with, and it still has a midrange-friendly voice with great fundamental notes and fewer overtones than larger-bodied guitars. The Takamine GY21E puts that in a warm, rootsy Satin Molasses finish with a solid spruce top and TP-3G electronics for the stage.

Common questions
What tuning does the Takamine GY21E use?
Standard guitar tuning, E-A-D-G-B-E from the lowest string to the highest.
Is the GY21E a solid-wood guitar?
The top is solid spruce, which is the part of the guitar that matters most for tone and projection. The back and sides are sapele, and the neck is mahogany.
Can I plug the GY21E into an amp or PA?
Yes. It is an acoustic-electric with a Takamine TP-3G preamp, which gives you three-band EQ and a chromatic tuner, so you can plug straight into an amp or PA.
How big is the GY21E?
It is a New Yorker parlor-style body, 40.83 inches long, 14.15 inches wide and 4.13 inches deep at the end, so it is noticeably more compact than a dreadnought and comfortable to hold in your lap.
Is the GY21E right-handed or left-handed?
This listing is the right-handed GY21E SM. Takamine also makes left-handed versions of some models, and we list those separately where available.
Does the GY21E come with a case?
No. Takamine does not include a case with the GY21E. The compatible case is the Takamine CTAKSH200A semi-hard case, which is sold separately.
What is a Takamine New Yorker body?
The New Yorker is Takamine's compact parlor-style body. It is smaller than a dreadnought, so it is comfortable to hold, easy to travel with, and has a focused, articulate sound.
