Description
Takamine GD51 BSB Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar with a solid spruce top, black walnut back and sides, a mahogany neck, a bound laurel fingerboard, and a Gloss Brown Sunburst finish.
I've been playing guitar for over 30 years. I started as a studio musician in Los Angeles, and now I run Terry Carter Music Store and a music education platform that has taught thousands of students how to play.
A dreadnought is the guitar most players picture when they think 'acoustic'. Big, balanced, and made for strumming and flatpicking. The Takamine GD51 puts that classic shape in a Gloss Brown Sunburst finish with a solid spruce top and black walnut back and sides for a warm, resonant sound, with deluxe cosmetic touches like an abalone rosette and gold die-cast tuners.

Common questions
What tuning does the Takamine GD51 use?
Standard guitar tuning, E-A-D-G-B-E from the lowest string to the highest.
Is the GD51 a solid-wood guitar?
The top is solid spruce, which is the part of the guitar that matters most for tone and projection. The back and sides are black walnut, and the neck is mahogany.
Does the GD51 have onboard electronics?
No. The GD51 is an acoustic-only guitar with no pickup or preamp. If you want to plug into an amp or PA, look at GD51CE, the electric version.
Can I plug the GD51 into an amp?
Not as it comes, because there is no pickup or preamp. You would need to add an aftermarket pickup, or choose the GD51CE, which has onboard electronics.
Is the GD51 right-handed or left-handed?
This listing is the right-handed GD51 BSB. Takamine also makes left-handed versions of some models, and we list those separately where available.
Does the GD51 come with a case?
No. Takamine does not include a case with the GD51. The compatible case is the Takamine CTAKSH200A semi-hard case, which is sold separately.
What is the difference between the Takamine GD51 BSB and the GD51 NAT?
The GD51 BSB and the GD51 NAT are the same guitar, a dreadnought with a solid spruce top, black walnut back and sides, a mahogany neck, and no onboard electronics. The only difference is the finish: Gloss Brown Sunburst versus Gloss Natural.
