Description
Takamine GC5 Classical Nylon-String Guitar with a fan-braced solid spruce top, black walnut back and sides, a mahogany neck, a laurel fingerboard, and a gloss natural finish.
I've been playing guitar for over 30 years. I started as a studio musician in Los Angeles, and now I run Terry Carter Music Store and a music education platform that has taught thousands of students how to play.
The GC5 is an elegant classical guitar with deluxe cosmetic appointments, solid-top construction, and a warm, resonant sound. A fan-braced solid spruce top over black walnut back and sides produces the rich nylon-string tone players expect from a Takamine classical, and the dovetail neck joint adds resonance and structural stability.

Common questions
What tuning does the Takamine GC5 use?
Standard guitar tuning, E-A-D-G-B-E from the lowest string to the highest.
Is the GC5 a solid-wood guitar?
The top is solid spruce, which is the part of the guitar that matters most for tone and projection. The back and sides are black walnut, and the neck is mahogany.
Does the GC5 use nylon or steel strings?
Nylon. It is a classical guitar with a 50.8 mm (2.00 in) nut, wider than a steel-string guitar, which gives your fingers more room between the strings.
Does the GC5 have onboard electronics?
No. The GC5 is an acoustic-only guitar with no pickup or preamp. If you want to plug into an amp or PA, look at the GC5CE, the electric version.
Does the GC5 come with a case?
No. Takamine does not include a case with the GC5. The compatible case is the Takamine CTAKSH300A semi-hard case, which is sold separately.
What is the difference between the Takamine GC5 and the GC5CE?
The GC5 is acoustic only with no cutaway. The GC5CE adds a Venetian-style cutaway and the onboard TP-4T preamp. Both are classical guitars with a fan-braced solid spruce top, black walnut back and sides, a mahogany neck, and a laurel fingerboard.
