Description

Takamine EF381SC Dreadnought Cutaway 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar with a solid spruce top, maple back and sides, a mahogany neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and a gloss black finish.

I've been playing guitar for over 30 years. I started as a studio musician in Los Angeles, and now I run Terry Carter Music Store and a music education platform that has taught thousands of students how to play.

The EF381SC is a 12-string dreadnought cutaway handcrafted in Takamine's pro series facility. Its solid spruce top can play sweet, glossy passages or power chords with equal ability, the maple back and sides add projection, and the gloss black finish is made to stand out on stage.

Common questions

What tuning does the Takamine EF381SC use?

Standard 12-string tuning. Each of the six notes, E-A-D-G-B-E, is played by a pair of strings. On the lower four pairs the second string is tuned an octave higher, and the two highest pairs are tuned in unison.

Is the EF381SC a solid-wood guitar?

The top is solid spruce, which is the part of the guitar that matters most for tone and projection. The back and sides are maple, and the neck is mahogany.

Can I plug the EF381SC into an amp or PA?

Yes. It is an acoustic-electric with a Takamine CT4B II preamp with the Palathetic under-saddle pickup, which gives you three-band EQ, volume control and a built-in tuner, so you can plug straight into an amp or PA.

Does the EF381SC have a cutaway?

Yes. The EF381SC is a Dreadnought Cutaway model, which makes the upper frets easier to reach.

Is a 12-string harder to play than a 6-string?

A little. Twelve strings mean more tension on your fretting hand and a bit more finger strength to get clean chords, and the nut here is 46.35 mm (1.82 in) wide, wider than a typical 6-string, so your fingers have more room. Most players get comfortable within a few weeks. If you are new to guitar, the included Rock Like The Pros membership walks you through the fundamentals.

Does the EF381SC come with a case?

Yes. It comes with a Takamine SH200A semi-hard case.

What is the difference between the Takamine EF381SC and the EF341SC?

The EF381SC is the 12-string with a solid spruce top and a 46.35 mm nut. The EF341SC is the six-string with a solid cedar top and a 42.5 mm nut. Both are dreadnought cutaways with maple back and sides, a mahogany neck, a rosewood fingerboard, a gloss black finish, and the CT4B II preamp.

Is this guitar in stock?

Yes. We have this guitar at our San Diego location and ship it within 1-2 business days of your order.

How do I claim the Rock Like The Pros membership?

After you order, we email you a link to claim your free 12-month Rock Like The Pros membership. The membership covers every course from beginner through advanced, plus the weekly live Zoom lessons.

Is shipping really free?

Yes. Shipping is free and insured anywhere in the continental US. You'll get tracking as soon as it ships.

What warranty does the EF381SC have?

It is covered by the Takamine Limited Warranty.

What if I'm not happy with the guitar?

30-day return policy. We want you to love it. If you don't, we'll make it right.
