Description

The KoAloha KTM-06 Imaikalani Solid Hawaiian Koa 6-String Tenor Ukulele is a six-string tenor ukulele made in Hawaii with a solid Hawaiian koa top, back and sides and a high-gloss finish.

What is the KoAloha KTM-06 Imaikalani made of?

The KoAloha KTM-06 Imaikalani has a solid Hawaiian koa top, back and sides with a high-gloss finish. It has a CNC-shaped mahogany neck, an ebony fretboard, a KoAloha bowtie ebony bridge, and a TUSQ nut and saddle. The headstock is KoAloha's 5-pointed crown and the soundhole is KoAloha's patented "Musubi" design. It is made in Hawaii at the KoAloha shop in Honolulu.

What size is the KoAloha KTM-06 Imaikalani and how is it tuned?

The KoAloha KTM-06 Imaikalani is a 6-string tenor ukulele with 20 frets. It uses KoAloha fluorocarbon strings tuned G-C-C-E-A-A with a low G, and the C and A strings are octave pairs, each with a high and a low string. The tuners are inline, three per side.

Is the KoAloha KTM-06 Imaikalani a guitarlele?

No. In Terry Carter's review, the KTM-06 is not a guitarlele; it is a tenor ukulele with six strings, which means two of the four courses are doubled. The G is a single low G, the C is a pair of high C and low C an octave apart, the E is a single string, and the A is a pair of high A and low A an octave apart. Terry Carter says that because not every course is doubled, it gets some of the fullness of a 12-string guitar without every string being doubled. In his review, he also says KoAloha offered a low G or a high G, and he chose the low G because it adds a little extra bass.

What does the KoAloha KTM-06 Imaikalani sound like and who is it for?

KoAloha describes the tone of its koa ukuleles as a balance of warmth and brightness, and says they suit styles from fingerpicking to strumming and from classical to jazz. In his review of the KTM-06, Terry Carter describes the koa as warm, full and lush, and calls the ukulele's sound unique. Because it uses standard G-C-E-A tuning with the C and A courses doubled, he says you can play your usual chords and courses on it. In his review of the satin KTM-16, he says this style of six-string works for strumming, fingerpicking, blues and jazz.

How is the gloss KoAloha KTM-06 Imaikalani different from the satin KTM-16?

In Terry Carter's review of the KTM-16, the satin finish takes less time in the finishing room than a gloss finish, and the KTM-16 has no ebony head plate, which also takes time, so KoAloha can bring that model's price down. In his KTM-06 review, he points out the gloss finish, the abalone inlay on the KoAloha crown headstock and the six open geared tuners.

Will I receive the exact ukulele in the photos?

Yes. Each KoAloha KTM-06 Imaikalani we list is photographed individually, so the ukulele you choose under "Your ukulele" is the instrument shown in its photos. Solid koa varies in grain and colour from one ukulele to the next.
