Crossrock CRA980BJ ABS Banjo Case with TSA Lock - Vibrant Blue
The Crossrock CRA980BJVB is an injection-molded ABS hardshell case for resonator 5-string and tenor banjos, finished in Vibrant Blue with a cream plush interior. A TSA-accepted lock is molded right into the case body, and a shortened neck cradle lets one case hold either a long-neck 5-string or a short-neck tenor.
How does one case fit both a 5-string and a tenor banjo?
Crossrock shortened the neck cradle so a tenor neck seats correctly while a longer 5-string neck still finds its position. The trade-off is a smaller accessory compartment in the neck block, but players who double on both instruments only need one case. Underneath the plush, a custom-molded EPS liner keeps the resonator back and bridge suspended away from the shell, so a knock in transit goes into the foam rather than your banjo.

Will my banjo fit the CRA980BJVB?
The 14.25" barrel is sized to clear most resonator 5-string banjos, including Mastertone-style instruments, and most tenor banjos with a resonator. Before ordering, compare your rim and neck to the interior measurements above.
What about an open-back banjo?
Many open-backs and some lighter tenors have a smaller rim, so the body will sit loosely in this barrel. Crossrock recommends adding Removable Padding Strips to take up the gap. They aren't included with this case and are sold separately.
Can I check the CRA980BJVB on a flight?
Yes, it was designed for that. The lock is built into the case body, so there's no clip-on padlock for security to cut off; TSA inspectors can open it with their master key and relock it without damage. Check your airline's size and weight rules before you fly.
Is it comfortable to carry with a heavy resonator banjo?
The handle is oversized and contoured, with four finger grooves that keep the case from rotating in a damp grip and spread the load across your hand. Note that it's a handle-carry case; no shoulder or backpack straps are included.
