Compared to other violas in its class, this one also includes an African ebony fingerboard and inlaid purfling for smooth playability. What size player is a 16" viola for?
A 16" viola generally suits most adults and older teenagers, with an arm length of roughly 25 inches or more. Measure from the side of the neck, along the outstretched arm, to the middle of the palm. Sizing follows the player's reach rather than age alone, so measure before choosing.
If a measurement falls between two sizes, the smaller size is usually the safer choice — an oversized instrument makes good left-hand technique harder to learn.
Viola sizes run, smallest to largest: 12", 13", 14", 15", and 16".
This is the largest size. The next size down is a 15" viola.
