What size player is a 4/4 cello for?
A 4/4 cello generally suits most players from around 15 years old upward, including adults, which is usually a height of 5 ft 5 in and over. Sizing follows the player's height and reach rather than age alone, so measure before choosing.
If a measurement falls between two sizes, the smaller size is usually the safer choice — an oversized instrument makes good left-hand technique harder to learn.
Cello sizes run, smallest to largest: 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and 4/4 (full size).
This is the largest size. The next size down is a 3/4 cello.
