Description
Takamine GY51E BSB New Yorker Acoustic-Electric Guitar with a solid spruce top, black walnut back and sides, a mahogany neck, a laurel fingerboard, and a Gloss Brown Sunburst finish.
I've been playing guitar for over 30 years. I started as a studio musician in Los Angeles, and now I run Terry Carter Music Store and a music education platform that has taught thousands of students how to play.
The Takamine GY51E has a cool retro vibe. A New Yorker-sized body with an old-school slot headstock, a solid spruce top, and black walnut back and sides for a clear tone with a sweet midrange. It records beautifully and, with the TP-4TD preamp onboard, it is ready for the stage too.

Common questions
What tuning does the Takamine GY51E use?
Standard guitar tuning, E-A-D-G-B-E from the lowest string to the highest.
Is the GY51E a solid-wood guitar?
The top is solid spruce, which is the part of the guitar that matters most for tone and projection. The back and sides are black walnut, and the neck is mahogany.
Can I plug the GY51E into an amp or PA?
Yes. It is an acoustic-electric with a Takamine TP-4TD preamp, which gives you a built-in tuner, three-band EQ, and gain controls, so you can plug straight into an amp or PA.
What is a New Yorker body?
The New Yorker is Takamine's compact body style. It is smaller than a dreadnought, so it is comfortable to hold and easy to travel with, and it has a clear, focused tone with a sweet midrange.
Is the GY51E right-handed or left-handed?
This listing is the right-handed GY51E BSB. Takamine also makes left-handed versions of some models, and we list those separately where available.
Does the GY51E come with a case?
No. Takamine does not include a case with the GY51E. The compatible case is the Takamine CTAKSH400A semi-hard case, which is sold separately.
What is the difference between the Takamine GY51E BSB and the GY51E NAT?
The GY51E BSB and the GY51E NAT are the same guitar, a New Yorker-sized acoustic-electric with a solid spruce top, black walnut back and sides, a mahogany neck, a slot headstock, and the TP-4TD preamp. The only difference is the finish: Gloss Brown Sunburst versus Gloss Natural.
