Description
Takamine GJ72CE-12 NAT Jumbo Cutaway 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar with a solid spruce top, flame maple back and sides, a maple neck, a bound laurel fingerboard, and a Gloss Natural finish.
I've been playing guitar for over 30 years. I started as a studio musician in Los Angeles, and now I run Terry Carter Music Store and a music education platform that has taught thousands of students how to play.
A jumbo body gives a 12-string room to breathe. Big low end, a wide soundstage, and a shimmering octave-string sound on top. The Takamine GJ72CE-12 pairs that jumbo body with a solid spruce top, flame maple back and sides, and the full TK-40D stage preamp.

Common questions
What tuning does the Takamine GJ72CE-12 use?
Standard 12-string tuning. Each of the six notes, E-A-D-G-B-E, is played by a pair of strings. On the lower four pairs the second string is tuned an octave higher, and the two highest pairs are tuned in unison.
Is the GJ72CE-12 a solid-wood guitar?
The top is solid spruce, which is the part of the guitar that matters most for tone and projection. The back and sides are flame maple, and the neck is maple.
Can I plug the GJ72CE-12 into an amp or PA?
Yes. It is an acoustic-electric with a Takamine TK-40D preamp, which gives you a built-in tuner, three-band EQ, gain control, mid contour switch, notch filter, and EQ bypass switch, so you can plug straight into an amp or PA.
Does the GJ72CE-12 have a cutaway?
Yes. The GJ72CE-12 is a Jumbo Cutaway model, which makes the upper frets easier to reach.
Is a 12-string harder to play than a 6-string?
A little. Twelve strings mean more tension on your fretting hand and a bit more finger strength to get clean chords, and the nut here is 47.6 mm (1.87 in) wide, wider than a typical 6-string, so your fingers have more room. Most players get comfortable within a few weeks. If you are new to guitar, the included Rock Like The Pros membership walks you through the fundamentals.
Is the GJ72CE-12 right-handed or left-handed?
This listing is the right-handed GJ72CE-12 NAT. Takamine also makes left-handed versions of some models, and we list those separately where available.
Does the GJ72CE-12 come with a case?
No. Takamine does not include a case with the GJ72CE-12. The compatible case is the Takamine CTAKSH000A semi-hard case, which is sold separately.
What is the difference between the Takamine GJ72CE-12 NAT and the GD30CE-12?
The GJ72CE-12 has a larger jumbo body with flame maple back and sides, a maple neck, and the TK-40D preamp with mid contour, notch filter, and EQ bypass. The GD30CE-12 has a dreadnought body with okoume back and sides, a mahogany neck, and the simpler TP-4TD preamp. Both are 12-strings with a solid spruce top and a cutaway.

What warranty does the GJ72CE-12 have?
It is covered by the Takamine Limited Warranty.
