Description
Takamine GD51CE NAT Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar with a solid spruce top, black walnut back and sides, a mahogany neck, a bound laurel fingerboard, and a Gloss Natural finish.
I've been playing guitar for over 30 years. I started as a studio musician in Los Angeles, and now I run Terry Carter Music Store and a music education platform that has taught thousands of students how to play.
A dreadnought is the guitar most players picture when they think 'acoustic'. Big, balanced, and made for strumming and flatpicking. The Takamine GD51CE wraps that classic shape in a solid spruce top, a cutaway for upper-fret access, and onboard electronics ready for any amp or PA.

Common questions
What tuning does the Takamine GD51CE use?
Standard guitar tuning, E-A-D-G-B-E from the lowest string to the highest.
Is the GD51CE a solid-wood guitar?
The top is solid spruce, which is the part of the guitar that matters most for tone and projection. The back and sides are black walnut, and the neck is mahogany.
Can I plug the GD51CE into an amp or PA?
Yes. It is an acoustic-electric with a Takamine TP-4TD preamp, which gives you a built-in tuner, three-band EQ, and gain control, so you can plug straight into an amp or PA.
Does the GD51CE have a cutaway?
Yes. The GD51CE is a Dreadnought Cutaway model, which makes the upper frets easier to reach.
Is the GD51CE right-handed or left-handed?
This listing is the right-handed GD51CE NAT. Takamine also makes left-handed versions of some models, and we list those separately where available.
Does the GD51CE come with a case?
No. Takamine does not include a case with the GD51CE. The compatible case is the Takamine CTAKSH200A semi-hard case, which is sold separately.
What is the difference between the Takamine GD51CE and the GD93CE?
The GD51CE has a black walnut back and sides and the TP-4TD preamp (tuner, three-band EQ, gain). The GD93CE has a three-piece black walnut and quilt maple back, maple binding, and the more advanced TK-40D preamp, which adds a mid contour switch, notch filter, and EQ bypass. Both have a solid spruce top and a bound laurel fingerboard.
