Description
Takamine GD37CE-12 PW Dreadnought Cutaway 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar with a solid spruce top, maple back and sides, a mahogany neck, a laurel fingerboard, and a Gloss Pearl White finish.
I've been playing guitar for over 30 years. I started as a studio musician in Los Angeles, and now I run Terry Carter Music Store and a music education platform that has taught thousands of students how to play.
12-string guitars benefit from the quick, punchy, reflective nature of maple back and sides. The GD37CE-12 wraps that in a gloss pearl white finish with ivoroid binding, gold hardware, and an abalone rosette, for a shimmering, punchy, bold sound across a wide variety of styles.

Common questions
What tuning does the Takamine GD37CE-12 use?
Standard 12-string tuning. Each of the six notes, E-A-D-G-B-E, is played by a pair of strings. On the lower four pairs the second string is tuned an octave higher, and the two highest pairs are tuned in unison.
Is the GD37CE-12 a solid-wood guitar?
The top is solid spruce, which is the part of the guitar that matters most for tone and projection. The back and sides are maple, and the neck is mahogany.
Can I plug the GD37CE-12 into an amp or PA?
Yes. It is an acoustic-electric with a Takamine TP-3G preamp, which gives you three-band EQ and a chromatic tuner, so you can plug straight into an amp or PA.
Does the GD37CE-12 have a cutaway?
Yes. The GD37CE-12 is a Dreadnought Cutaway model, which makes the upper frets easier to reach.
Is a 12-string harder to play than a 6-string?
A little. Twelve strings mean more tension on your fretting hand and a bit more finger strength to get clean chords, and the nut here is 47.5 mm (1.87 in) wide, wider than a typical 6-string, so your fingers have more room. Most players get comfortable within a few weeks. If you are new to guitar, the included Rock Like The Pros membership walks you through the fundamentals.
Is the GD37CE-12 right-handed or left-handed?
This listing is the right-handed GD37CE-12 PW. Takamine also makes left-handed versions of some models, and we list those separately where available.
Does the GD37CE-12 come with a case?
It comes with a Takamine gig bag. It does not include a hard case.
What is the difference between the Takamine GD37CE-12 PW and the GD37CE-PW?
The GD37CE-12 PW is the 12-string version, with a 47.5 mm nut and a double set of strings. The GD37CE-PW is the six-string version of the same dreadnought cutaway, with a 42.5 mm nut. Both have a solid spruce top, maple back and sides, a Gloss Pearl White finish, the TP-3G preamp, and a gig bag.
