Description
Crossrock CRA861BJ ABS Banjo Case, Backpackable - Mint Blue
The Crossrock CRA861BJMB is a backpackable molded ABS banjo case with a bright mint blue shell and silver trim. A shortened neck cradle lets the same case seat a long-neck 5-string resonator banjo or a short-neck tenor banjo, and dual-shoulder backpack straps free up your hands on the walk from the car to the jam, lesson, or stage. Inside, a high-density EPS liner with burgundy plush lining keeps the banjo held securely.
How does one case fit both a 5-string and a tenor banjo?
Most banjo cases are shaped around one neck length. This one uses a shortened neck cradle, so a tenor neck seats correctly while a longer 5-string neck still finds its position. The trade-off is a smaller accessory compartment in the neck block. In return, players who switch between a 5-string bluegrass set and a tenor session can use a single case.

Common questions
Will the CRA861BJMB fit my banjo?
The 14.25" universal barrel is sized for most resonator 5-string banjos, including Mastertone-style instruments, and most tenor banjos with a resonator. Compare your banjo with the interior measurements above, particularly the 14.37" body diameter and the 41.93" overall length.
What if my banjo has a smaller rim?
Many open-backs and some lighter tenors will sit loosely in the barrel. Crossrock recommends adding its Removable Padding Strips to take up the gap and stop the banjo shifting. They aren't included with this case and are sold separately.
Can I carry it as a backpack for long distances?
The straps are meant for short carries, like a parking lot to a jam or a hotel to the venue. A resonator banjo is heavy, so Crossrock doesn't recommend backpacking it over long distances or for long stretches of time.
Is the CRA861BJMB TSA-friendly for flying?
No. It uses standard metal latch locks rather than a TSA lock. If you fly with your banjo, the Crossrock CRA980BJ uses the same molded ABS shell and EPS liner and adds a TSA lock and an ergonomic handle.
How is it different from the Black CRA861BJ?
The shell, interior layout, and measurements are the same. What changes is the mint blue exterior and the burgundy plush lining.
