What size player is a 15" viola for?
A 15" viola generally suits players from about 12 to 14 years old, and smaller adults, with an arm length of roughly 24 inches. Measure from the side of the neck, along the outstretched arm, to the middle of the palm. Sizing follows the player's reach rather than age alone, so measure before choosing.
If a measurement falls between two sizes, the smaller size is usually the safer choice — an oversized instrument makes good left-hand technique harder to learn.
Viola sizes run, smallest to largest: 12", 13", 14", 15", and 16".
The next size up is a 16" viola. The next size down is a 14" viola.
