After getting a GL6 Guitarlele and 3 K-1 B TRu-R G Baritones from Kanile'a and being extremely impressed by the quality, sound, and look of their instruments, I wanted to step it up to the top of the line...and that's exactly what I did with the 2019 Platinum Pineapple.
I already had a really good relationship with Kanilea as they made my baritone, the same one I recorded my Baritone Bootcamp Ukulele Course on. So when I decided to go for the Platinum Pineapple I got to speak with my artist rep at Kanilea and he spent me photos of 3 of the ones that they had in stock.
I knew from the moment I saw this beautiful instrument it was the one for me.
Once it arrived, it was more stunning than the photos showed.
In the video you will see my reaction to playing it as it was the first time that I have gotten it out of the case and heard this stunning and amazing instrument.
Pineapple dreams is made from Master Grade Premium Koa wood (top, back, and sides), notice not only the curl (the wavy vertical grain) but also the amazing tiger stripe flame. The rosette and fret markers are made from Premium Curly Mango, and mahogany neck, and ebony fretboard.
A few other unique and key features include pineapple side sound port, the
Gotoh Stealth Cosmo Black Micro Tuners and green popular Kanile'a logo on the headstock, and ebony armrest.

Always pushing the boundaries of innovation, development and style. The 2019 Platinum delivers on an instrument that is the first of its kind… off of Joe’s workbench. In celebration of the 60th anniversary of Statehood, Joe took the concept of a pineapple (which is so synonymous to Hawai`i) and created a Pineapple Tenor. This instrument features a Cobra Slotted Headstock, a classic 17 inch Tenor scale and a Kanile`a first ever, pineapple shaped body. Accenting Premium Curly Mango was used to highlight the the wood inlay rosette and Kanile`a armrest.
Each instrument we build may be equipped with a “G” fourth course (196Hz) fixed with a 0.029″ Phosphor Bronze wire-wrapped nylon-core string for no extra charge. The woven “low G-string” is tuned an octave lower, which gives a richer sound and opens a wider picking range.
