Description
1961 Gibson Les Paul Solid Body Electric Guitar - Custom
Newly restored. Purchased from trash heap condition. A genuine 1961 Gibson Les Paul/sg. When received, there were several coats of house paint and a few large “modifications” routed into it. Those were patched up and brought back to life. No headstock or heel repair. The heel has been contoured by previous owner. There was a non matching binding patch repair on the player side and the non player side was missing. The non player side binding needed to be replaced as well.
After stripping off the paint and refinishing with pelham blue nitro over period correct analine cherry grain filler, we then did some relic work to reveal the cherry red underneath. The mahogany is absolutely gorgeous and we wanted to be able to see some cherry red, but not reveal too much of the scars. This guitar has been through quite a bit and we wanted that to be reflected in the final product.
Frets are brand new and plays like butter with very low action. The only original parts are the truss rod cover, pickguard, nut, strap buttons and neck tenon cover. Gibson historic abr-1, historic makeovers tailpiece and studs. All other plastic parts are Gibson. Gotoh relic nickel tuners. I installed my own hand wound paf copies loaded with alnico 2 magnets. Neck reads 6.5k and bridge reads 7.5k. Wired with stewmac sg standard wiring kit. The truss rod is in perfect health.
Overall a great sounding and great playing sg with a lot of mojo. Will ship with skb flight case.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The bridge studs were epoxied in by previous owner and were not properly grounded. I ran a ground wire from the treble side abr-1 post. keep this in mind if you decide to change the pickups. (see pictures)
